Gratitude

Gratitude

April is here! This month has special meaning to me: One April 16 years ago I met my husband in Heathrow airport and in the same month 2 years later my son was born into this world.

So, in a month that has such a deep meaning for me and my family I would like to share an old Chinese story that has been guiding my life for a long time and has opened my heart to one of the most powerful feelings in the world: GRATITUDE.

There was and old man living with his son and his only horse in a small house in the countryside. One day his horse disappeared and friends and neighbours commented in concern, "What bad luck! How is he going to work the land now? Poor him, how is he going to survive?" But the old man just smiled and said: Who knows what is good and what is bad? Nobody knows, just be grateful for every event in your life.

After some days the horse returned to the house with a lot of wild horses, so again neighbours and friends commented, "What a good luck!! now he has plenty of horses, after he trains them he will be able to work the land easily and to sell some of them and make a lot of money". But the old man just smiled and said: Who knows what is good and what is bad? Nobody knows, just be grateful for every event in your life.

Weeks later while his son was training one of the wild horses he fell down and broke his hand. Again neighbours and friends got together and said, "What bad luck, now who is going to help the old man, those wild animals are not good." But the old man smiled again and said: Who knows what is good and what is bad? Nobody knows just be grateful for every event in your life.

Days later the war started and the army visited the village and took with them every young man, but the son of the old man was left behind because of his broken arm. Neighbours and friends go together again to comment the good luck of the old man who could keep his son with him and again the old man just smiled and said: Who knows what is good and what is bad? Nobody knows, just be grateful for every event in your life.

Life went on and with every event of his life the old man was deeply grateful because he knew there are not good or bad things, everything is an experience which helps us to grow in life”

When we start to live our life like the fantastic adventure that it is and learn to be grateful for everything, with out judgement of good or bad, a new perspective appears in front of us and it is very easy to live in peace and happiness.

Enjoy life and be grateful for every event... Who knows what is good and what is bad? :-)!!!
